February 3, 2017

Welcome to February!  Where the registrations happen and second round of parents conferences takes place!  We have a busy short month, so please be sure that you are aware of all that is going on!

Please take a moment to complete this survey!  It's very important!  We want to hear from you!

Parents of 8th grade students!  Please mark these dates down:
*Fairfield High School freshman registration is Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 4:30-7:30!

*Rodriguez High School freshman registration is Tuesday, February 28 from 5:30-7:30!

*Armijo High School freshman registration is March 1, 2, 8 and 9 from 4:30-7:70 PM!
Parent conferences are coming February 23 from 3-5 PM in our gym (7th/8th) and cafeteria (6th).  Personal invites will be sent through US Post Office to those that we are asking to attend.  If you do not receive an invite, your student does not need a conference at this time.
Thank you to those fathers that have come to GVMS on your own time to hang out with our kids!  We still have several that have not picked up their badges and shirts!  If you are interested in being a part of Watch D.O.G.S., please email HERE!
Friday, Feb 10 Nelda Mundy Elementary is having a Watch D.O.G.S. meeting and has included GVMS!  Please join us in room 707 for free pizza and active shooter info as well as a brief presentation on bullying and how school volunteers can help resolve situations!

Have you heard?  GVMS is building a school garden!  It is taking shape in the back of our campus and we could use YOUR help!  Have a green thumb?  Know your way around gardening tools and plants?  Please email Mrs. McKenna HERE to get involved!  We are also trying to win a grant to help fund this project!  Please click this link to enter!!

Many of our students are still REALLY struggling with math facts.  Our students should be able to complete 50 facts per minute by 5th grade.  This number can vary, however, the more students practice, the better they remember their facts. Not knowing math facts makes it VERY hard to complete any other multi-step math problem.  Check out some of these websites (Thanks Mrs. Laffey!) to help your Viking practice!

Many of our teachers are getting even more creative and working to bring state of the art technology and hands on learning for our students!  Check out what they are doing AND see if you can support!  It's a great time to be a Viking!
